Observe your texture: a guide for every hair type
Your hair assessment starts with observations, not a label. Prepare your own reference points before choosing a routine.

Before you start: keep your own reference point
Your goal is not to find a perfect label. The assessment describes what you observe today and gives you a starting point. Record whether your hair is loose, styled or stretched: observations made in different conditions can be hard to compare.
A four-step observation sheet
- Choose a moment when you can look at different areas, without changing your hairstyle just to produce an answer.
- Observe the sides, crown and nape separately. Note the patterns you see and the areas you are unsure about.
- Describe how your hair feels in your own words: touch, comfort and how easy it is to organise your routine. Keep these notes separate from strand patterns.
- Use “I’m not sure” when you need more reference points. You can revisit your answers later.
Fictional example: several textures, one profile
Camille notices waves at the sides and tighter curls at the nape. Rather than choosing the answer that sounds most appealing, Camille keeps observations for each area. The result becomes a reference point to develop, not a rule imposed on all their hair.
What you can record
| Reference | What to record |
|---|---|
| Area observed | Sides, crown or nape |
| Conditions | Loose, styled or stretched hair; observation date |
| Pattern noticed | Your description or “I’m not sure” |
| Question to revisit | The area or answer you want to observe again |
From observation to your next care session
After your assessment, explore a routine based on your goal and available time. Texture alone does not choose every product for you. Keep product directions, habits and preferences in mind, too. You can update an assessment: you do not need to finish with certainty about every answer.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to know my type before starting?
No. The journey starts with your observations and leaves room for uncertainty. You can start without an account.
Does the assessment force a single texture?
You can observe different areas and record variation. Do not hide a difference simply to produce a single answer.
Where do my answers go before registration?
They stay in your tab for up to 24 hours. Transferring them to a private profile requires your confirmation. You can also erase them.

Observe several areas under comparable conditions
After your usual wash, look at a strand near the temples, one at the crown and one at the nape. Note whether they were stretched or styled. Repeat under comparable conditions before changing your reference. Curl codes do not describe scalp comfort or every care need.
